build advice
I found an old 10 gallon bowfront in my basement today. No hood or light. Thinking about turning it into a little tank with 1 or 2 dwarf puffers. Any suggestions on how I can build my own hood (possibly out of wood) with an attached fluorescent tube? I really have no idea what to do. Advice please! ...

lost power
So I lost power this morning for no reason at all. It's been out for 15 minutes exactly and I'm not sure when it's going to come back on. How long before I have a serious problem with dying bacteria in my filters? And is there anything I can do??

GSP and yellow tail damsel
If I put a small yellow tail damsel in my 20g tank with a 1 and 1/2 inch long GSP is it basically a guarentee that the puffer will attack/eat him? Or is there a chance they just won't bother each other

my puffer threw up
Well I just fed my GSP a few small pieces of clam meat and some frozen mysis shrimp, nothing out of the ordinary. He wasn't bloated at all or over-fed but he suddenly seemed to throw it all up at once and then eat it again. Should I be concerned? He's swallowed stuff and then spit it back out before...

Re: Algae Outbreak
Looking at my tank again I notice that the sand underneath the cave type decoration that's in his tank has no algae growth on it....it also gets no light. So it must be the lights. If it were the phosphate levels wouldn't there be algae on every square inch of the tank? Not just the areas that recei...

Re: Algae Outbreak
But it was always on that light schedule and the algae JUST started coming around. Is it possible for none of it to form and then to suddenly have an outbreak of it? And if i cut my light schedule down will that take care of it?

Re: Algae Outbreak
It's on from 6am to 1pm, then off from 1pm to 3pm, then on from 3pm to 9pm, and then off untill 6am again. So a total of 13 hours on a day. Is that too much??

Algae Outbreak
So suddenly I've been having some type of bad algae outbreak in my 20 gallon tank. All I have in it is one 2 inch green spotted puffer. He's been in there for the past 7 months or so with no problems like this before. SG is 1.020, pH is 8.0, Ammonia is 0, Nitrites are 0, and Nitrates are less than 2...

ammonia levels are up
So the other day I bought an AquaClear 50 filter to add onto my 20 gallon tank because I only have a tetra whisper filter running. I have one Green Spotted Puffer that's about 2 inches long. SG is 1.020 and pH is 8.0. Normally my ammonia is 0, nitrites are 0, and nitrites are around 20ppm but I just...
