I read that last night too Ybe. I actually had tears in my eyes. He had some sps's that he can't replace. Some good news, he was an avid fragger, so some of his corals he'll be able to get back...if you read the whole thread it's of course been offered. I was quite impressed he waited until HE saw e...

you never have to worry about overflows with sumps if you do one minor test. just fill the tank to the overflows. and put the sump in. then run your plumbing as usual and fill the upper tank til its full and the sump will fill with some water. run the system like that for a minute and mark where th...

I've read about sand hardening and anaerobic (spell?) pockets forming and poisoning tanks. Anyone here knowledgeable about that? Does this happen in freshwater tanks, or just marine tanks? I'm interested because I have a black sand bed in my multi tank, and with small fish and the shells, it's almos...

Puffer, don't buy one. I did, and now that I see what it is, they are so easy to make. Besides, YB is working with acrylic...he'll make ya one, huh yb? My sump is set up correctly and pumps are sized correctly (thanks to Jeff at lifereef..I had NOTHING to do with this). I have both my pumps o...

Lisa is right, since technology has advanced HOB protein skimmers are more effective. However, that said, adding a 10 gallon sump on a 55 gallon is adding almost 20% to your total water volume. Phaedrus said his stand is open back. I'm pretty sure a 20 g tank will fit, the drawback is if he ever has...

There is also a need for an overflow if your tank is not reefready, and I'm assuming it's not. I'm not familiar with either the remora pro or the urchine. Search some of the other marine websites (like reef central) and see if there are any reviews. Since you've waited this long to convert to marine...

I'm not at all familiar with the bakpak ps set up. If you don't have the directions that came with the ps, then go on line and see if the manufacturer will let you download them. Most bigger company's let you. Some will take customer service/tech support calls also and you can usually find the telep...

Re: BW to SW: A Plan of Action! Or... I need some advice.
IMO, a canister and sump/protein skimmer would be a waste of money. A sump and a GOOD protein skimmer would be more than enough. No need for a canister. I would go with an "in the sump" protein skimmer, the BEST one you can afford. I have a Life Reef system, and it was stupidly expensive. ...

I had an HOB PS for a few months. I had to constantly adjust it to get it to produce skimate. Try adjusting it until you get a lighter colored wet skimate, then lowering the adjustment to get the darker, dryer skimate. My PS goes NUTS when I add any frozen cubes that have gel in them (I have stopped...
