Galic soak

What is meant when people say garlic soak? Do you chop garlic and put it in with the food to soak before feeding?

Size in relation to age (f8)

So I finally found a store thats not too far away that has some figure eights in stock, the guy I spoke to on the phone said they are about an inch and a half. Is there anyway to estimate age based on size?

Since I can't seem to find out if coral sand is aragonite, would this be ok?

Re: Sand

I thought you didn't want sand to compact as it can create anaerobic(sp) gas pockets. Then again I think that only applies to sand over 2inch thick :S

Re: Sand

I'll call tomorrow and see if they will refund given the lack of receipt and order some of that classica, just found it on ebay, out of interest, which grain size did you go for, the 1mm 3mm or 5mm?
How thick did you make your bed?
Does it compact down?

Re: Sand

Went to a fish store about 20minutes away today and asked if they stocked aragonite sand as I wanted some to re scape my tank ready for a figure eight, to which they asked why I wanted aragonite, I replied "I was advised to use it" and that I assumed it was for its buffering cababilities. ...

Sand

Got rid of my cichlids finally today so onto the next phase, which is ordering in new sand. I was looking online for some and saw on a few sites there are "fresh water sands" like unipac's quartz sand but also marine/reef sands like Caribsea Fiji Pink Reef Sand or Caribsea Seaflor Special ...

Re: MTS

I just remembered this stuff from my shrimp keeping days http://www.aquaessentials.co.uk/genchem-no-planaria-50g-p-5606.html apparently it kills snails too but not harmful for fish or bacteria. If I were to do a substrate change and tank clean, then dose the new tank with this to kill off any stragg...

I had been collecting them until you said that they were unsafe as food, now I put them in a tupperware container with boiling water from the kettle. I can just imagine how invasive they could be.

Re: MTS

Would rinsing the tank with hot water kill them off? Failing that is there any certain way to get rid of/kill them all? from my post above: "or start completely over with new sand, gravel, filter media, decorations, etc" I shall change the substrate and decor but if I change filter media ...
