Re: I Want To Get Some Figure Eights
So, for those of you who say such things as, "avoid MTS" and "keep your GSP at brackish conditions, at most", then avoid MTS and never bring your GSP up to full marine salinity. You said this in your earlier post and I've never seen anyone, at least on the puffer forum, say to k...

Re: I Want To Get Some Figure Eights
Usually people say to bring GSPs to full marine conditions.... just sayin I do have mine at full marine salinity and have had it so for over a year. (Almost) everything I have read recommends that. It must be done slowly over a period of many weeks. Because they are scale-less fish, full salinity i...

Re: I Want To Get Some Figure Eights
I am an old man. I have learned that I don't have all the answers. But, what I have learned is that there is nothing like experience to tell you what works and what doesn't. So, for those of you who say such things as, "avoid MTS" and "keep your GSP at brackish conditions, at most&quo...

Re: I Want To Get Some Figure Eights
Also, this has already been addressed many times, do not feed puffers MTS, malaysian trumpet snails, their shells are too hard and it can break the puffer's teeth. Please stop suggesting this. I don't understand your position on MTS. I maintain a 5 G aquarium in which I raise MTS by the hundreds. I...

Re: Malasian Trumpet Snails
To the person who said "don't do this", please understand, I do not hold the snail; with my fingers. I said that I use a 12" long tweezers to hold the snail. I never feed my GSP using my fingers.

Re: Malasian Trumpet Snails
I don't feed my GSP the large MTS becasue I want the large ones to be giving birth to lots of small ones. If you raise the MTS in their own small tank (2 gal or so) with no substrate on th h bottom (so you can sort and pick out the young when they are the right size) there should be no reason to fee...

Re: Young GSP's in full marine?
My GSP went from WalMart's fresh water to full marine very slowly (many weeks of gradually raising the specific gravity). It has been at full marine (1.020) now for 6 months and is doing great - growing slowly, but noticably, eating very well and very actively swimming.

Re: GSP eating Shrimp?
I haev fed my GSP uncooked shrimp. It loves them, but they offer no help in maintaining its teeth. So you must include something harder now and then. IMO get Malasian Trumpet Snails, raise them is a separate tank and feed the young to your GSP when the young are about the size of a pencil lead. I fe...

Re: Bringing up Salinity
I agree with jmiller. But I would suggest you eventually end up at 1.022 specific gravity (raising it as suggeted by jmiller) so that your GSP will eventually be in full SW conditions. What I read is that they will survive longer at full SW rather than to keep them at brackish levels for life.

Re: MTS
I see posts which say the MTS will live in a salt water aquarium. Is this true? And, if so, what is the specific gravity of the salt water in which you ar ekeeping them? Seems to me the SW would kill this snail pretty quickly as, from what I read, it prefers fresh to brackish conditions, not full ma...

Malasian Trumpet Snails
I have finally been successful feeding my 3.5" long GSP Malasian Trumpet Snails (MTS). For those who would like to benefit from my experience, I offer the following: I purchased a half dozen adult MTS from my local (reliable, clean) fish store. They sell for $0.50 each. I set up a separate 2 ga...
