Re: What's your favorite species of puffer?
Not sure I can pick a favorite, my fahaka was great, abei was just like a mini fahaka on speed, didn't care much for the lurkers although I love the looks of the palembang. The white spotted and blue spotted saltwater ones I had ate things I didn't want eaten. So far I really like the little schoute...

Re: Anyone run a powerhead in a Schoutedeni tank?
Mine were liking it but I turned it off for now after one for his little head slammed into the driftwood. I run the wavemaker style with relatively wide flow

Re: Is 180 gallons enough for a fahaka?
I sometimes wonder if 180 is enough but my 14.5" fahaka seems happy in there. I couldn't imagine going any smaller for his tank.

Re: Congo Puffer With Blue Acara
my fahaka is a fish eater, ok he's an anything eater, except 1 pleco that a buddy dumped on me that so far he has let live with him for a year now.Pufferpunk wrote:Fahakas are not fish-eaters, like the Congo is. Re: Fahaka subspecies?
I have actually heard of several chain fish stores here telling people that same line of crap about some kinds of Fahaka only growing to 6". I also had a lfs try to tell me the 10" mbu puffer in his store was already at its maximum size and would be fine in a 55 for life. It just goes to s...

Re: powerhead for my 180g fahaka tank.
I've not used a c2c overflow but if you put power head on one end across top, towards the front and drip at top of other end(somewhere towards middle or front) the movement from powerhead should pull the fresh(drip) water down and across the bottom before it would just hit the overflow. That may als...

Re: powerhead for my 180g fahaka tank.
I always run my powerheads at the top(as close to the top as I can without them creating an eddy and sucking air) on one end pointing across the tank, the flow hits the other end then goes down and returns across the bottom.

I always just leave mine on 24/7 except they turn off for waterchanges.

Re: powerhead for my 180g fahaka tank.
I ran a couple koralia 1400 in his 180 most of his smaller life. My thoughts are as long at there are places for him to get out of the current to rest when needed or sleeping it should be fine.

Re: powerhead for my 180g fahaka tank.
He hasn't complained, really 3250 gph isn't much when the fish is 12"+. And he hasn't chomped on this one like he did his last 2 smaller ones. I used to run 2 of them in my 220 piranha tank when I had that running.

I run a koralia mag8 on mine across the front with the fx5 output across the back in my 180 Fahaka tank.

Re: Building for the Fahaka
I don't know about them outgrowing snails, my 12" Fahaka still loves ramshorn snails. Granted it takes a ton of them to make a meal but he will hunt down every one I throw in his tank. Fortunately with 35 tanks in the house I can always find some snails when u want to go that route but his main...

Re: New Fahaka Puffer need help.
Personally I would move him to his forever home now, they grow real fast and are feisty. Not an easy fish to move. It's better for him and you Can't agree more, mine was in a 75 for his first few months while I found a 180, he was only around 3" when he moved into it. 3 years later I almost wi...

Re: Zebra Plecos
Mussels are good too, half a mussel just before lights out, clean shell by morning, and what puffer keeper doesn't have mussels? Might be a little much for a single zebra though.
