Funny eyed porcupine
Well I just got this porcupine in my dt. He didn't want to eat at first and was hiding in caves non stop... He is now eating bloodworms from my tweezers and swimming more but his eyes look exactly like this picture ( of actual fish) is this a problem or normal?
He is in a 100 gallon 6x2x14" tank and all tank mates are fine healthy and established... Tank water and sand and rocks has been used for over a year just switch to a new tank 2 months ago
Picture 1 is my fish camera did a good job actual colors n all..
Picture 2 is one I found online just searching

Re: Funny eyed porcupine
Totally normal. This rainbow colored layer apparently acts as both: an UV-filter and to improve contrast. Many fish have that, but it is most obvious on puffers due to their big eyes and the most obvious on diodontids which have very large eyes for their size.
Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Give a fish a man, and he'll eat for weeks.

PS: your puffer is no Diodon holocanthus in case you did not know

Re: Funny eyed porcupine
man, well what type of puffer is it?
he's a cool looking lil guy, love puffers, had FULL reef setups for years, and finally gave into my urge and set up a FOWLR tank... love it... so much less worry... I do have a few coral in there, toadstools, leathers, junk like that that has a good reputation of living w/ a puffer

Re: Funny eyed porcupine
thanks guys, it is a burrfish, which i'll assume as a type of puffer, but he does look a lot like the 2nd picture.

Re: Funny eyed porcupine
Would prefer to have a full body picture to determine which species of burrfish it is.
Pic1 and Pic2 are totally different fishes.

Re: Funny eyed porcupine
I'll take some better pictures tonight, he has been swimming around a lil bit more and loves some blood worms off my fingers... but isn't really aggressive enough to come out and grab food w/ the rest of the fish yet..
