The fw puffer season is upon us, they are popping up all over in my country and we are normally last to get cool stuff. Keep phoning round your local shops, you will get one soon I am sure.welcome to the forum. Tell us a little about the setup you have prepared.

Thanks! I just finished cycling a 125 just for him. I hear ya bertie, but I've never seen a fahaka at any LFS around here for some reason (I'm in suffolk county, long island). Thanks GSPicthus, they're about a 2 hour drive, so I'll prob give them a call when I have more free time to make the trip!

Sounds like you got somewhere that can get one which is great. Good on you for doing your research prior to buying. I assume you used the fishless cycle to prep your tank? Remember to feed the bacteria to keep them alive

Well I'm still looking for a fahaka closer to suffolk county or one that can be shipped as I can't quite make the trip to Rockland for a few weeks. and yeah, fishless cycle. But it's all ready for him now, I actually added a group of 6 tetras a few days ago along with a synodontis zebra hybrid. I figure the puffer won't be able to catch the tetras as they're pretty fast. As far as the syno is concerned, if I get a small puffer, I'll leave him in for a while to clean up his scraps but he'll def be separated if I see any aggression from the fahaka.

Lol don't count on it. My 1.5 inch fahaka bit chunks out of a foot long plec. And there are not many fish that can out run a pissed off fahaka. Expect the other fish to die or remove them before you add him. Mine has caught rasporas, danios and others. The tetras will get eaten

Yeah lol i agree with bertie my puffer moves very slow but can catch and eat a fish in a blink on a eye. I think there to smart and good hunters for other fish.

Just ordered a baby fahaka :D ! For anyone else looking to get them, liveaquaria.com has small ones in stock (a little pricey: $80 shipped).
