He won't come out of his cave. He's about 7" & very thick.

:D Is that in your tank? he needs a much deeper sand bed. Be sure to give him lots of rubble to move around.

Does he at least have a cave to retreat to?

Oh yes the tank has 40kg of LR in it all piled ontop of it's self. Loads of hiding caves for him

Is it best to add PVC piping to the sand or just let him build his own tunnel network?

Let him do his thing. Does he have rubble to build with?

I'm going to smash up a couple of kg of LR for him.

Get some dry rock and smash that. Its cheaper bout £2 kilo in most Lfs round my way
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

I've got 40kg of LR so a couple of KG will be ok. Thx for the advise though :)

Should I create a cave with the Live Rock laying on the tank glass bottom, and then fill it with sand so that he can dig it out himself?

Yes, he'll like a cave of LR & then leave the rubble for his redecorating needs. I wouldn't place it on the bottom--he won't be able to dig underneath it.
