No More Live Food

Post by Terrance »

My family is against me feeding the Crays to puffs. I will tear down the tank for something else. :(

Only dead meals and occasional live worms indefinitely.
Kind regards,
Terrance

But.... you have a fahaka, it is necessary to provide crabs or crayfish...
what is their argument to be against that necessity?
Let there be light, and lit up the days... Let there be puffers, and they swam around the world...

Cruellty. The women thought the baby Crays were cute.

Part of the deal is to feed the rest of the Crays to the puffer instead of rehoming them.
Kind regards,

Cruellty???? you can ask her if does aren´t baby pigs, baby fish or baby chickens cute? and humans kills MANY, so feeding your fahaka twice a week with crayfish this isn´t cruel at all....

But i Understand Compromise... why don't you start to decorate the Crays tank and put some other critters, to make it look like a new set up, so you can told her it is a "new tank", and not a cray farm... and then, if that works, you can feed the fahaka in the night or when nobody sees...

Instead of crays try feeding mussels, clams, and crab with shell on. You can buy them frozen in bulk for a moderate price and they will have the same effect.

For me, I'd rather be open than underhanded. That may be because I am not very good at it. I'd go w/Dadof4' suggestions. It eats some freezer space, but the critters involved are cute as is, and are grocery items. My Fahakas never saw baby crays and soon outgrew any but adult sizes anyway - they lived on grocery store/fish market offerings quite well. We did not have that line of crays back then.

It's fun watching the hunt of living food. Not the same if a raw dead scallop lays on my substrate.

I have trouble with live food. I don't care if other people does it, as it's the way nature works. But myself, I just can't do it - not even earthworms (I have done it a few times, but just couldn't continue doing it). I just feel so sorry for the earthworms. I am getting softer and softer on these things, and I am a bit angry with myself for it. But I am terribly soft at heart. I have no problems with snails though. BUT, there is a big BUT with this. In Norway it's not allowed to use live fish for feeding other fish. The law is actually made for people who goes fishing, but it does make it illegal in fishkeeping too. And crays aren't allowed to keep at all (that has to do with the fear of introducing illnesses to the country).
