im 99% sure thats Periophthalmus argentilineatus you have there ,can grow upto 7 inches .

Keep in fresh and adjust to low end brackish if you wish . My mudskipper is currently in fresh , i did plan on acclimatising upto brackish but to be honest he's doing so well in fresh I don't think i'll bother .

in the wild mudskippers , water conditions vary a lot , due to tidal , season and rainfall etc ......this is what makes them so adaptable ...they can be in full salt one day , brackish another and another day stuck in a puddle of rain water !! lol

I think you could be right pufferking

I looked through a few Native Australian Mudskippers and Ive narrowed it down to these 3 muddies... and it resembles the Periophthalmus argentilineatu the most. Images sourced from http://www.mudskipper.it/SpeciesList.html



interesting to find out that there were at least 5 species of mudskippers in Australia.... I am pretty confident that mudskippers are not imported in AUS. AUS is quite strict with importation of ornamental fish here.

well done , yes surprising how many different mudskippers there are , i think theres around 18 or so different types ....
anywhere low end will be fine your mudskipper , you'll find it spends 90% of its time out of the water or partially submerged , with its eyes sticking out like a hippo lol , think mine goes for a paddle once a day usually at night ..

Im positive you dont need to go up to 1.010. Like pufferpunk said 1.005 would be perfect. I aim to keep mine between 1.003-1.008. I do not recomend keeping any brackish fish in pure fresh. Even mollies live much longer in brackish then fresh.

mudskippers can and do in the wild live in brackish mangrove habitats , fresh water swamps and during certain tidal conditions even full salt water .....there conditions can even change several times a day . So its not an exact science . All of this is pretty irrelevant as mudskippers favour to be on land and particularly like to burrow in mud , or a sandy soft substrate , something well worth considering when setting up your aquarium or paludarium.
