Re: new fahaka quarantine
cool will start the prazi-pro treatment next week. I like to give them a week to be sure their eating and tank params are stable.
wow a baby all alone in a 5' x2' tank musta looked just empty.

Re: new fahaka quarantine
It may look empty, but the fahaka must really like the big space. It will only look empty for ~1year.
Kind regards,
Terrance

Re: new fahaka quarantine
after 3 weeks he finally got to go into his new home. He looks tiny in the 75 for now...
His new temporary home for a few months, you can almost see him in the bottom right corner.
There he is...
just realized there are a ton of tiny little pond snails in the tank and is searching all over very slowly.

Re: new fahaka quarantine
ya, the tank needs more plants and deco, but it was home to a rhom that tore everything up. I just had to get him out of that little 20 gal quarrantine tank he was in asap. Been looking for pics of fahaka setups here but they are randomly scattered and tough to find.

Re: new fahaka quarantine
If you look on youtube, there are a bunch of big fahaka videos living tanks with very little decor. I think I saw a few tanks that are nicely decorated. Might be worth checking out. I watch those videos closely for visual inspirations.
btw i saw a video of a fahaka eating a DP

Re: new fahaka quarantine
just an updated pic, pushing 4.5" TL already, he is starting to get the nice maroon color on his stripes. It's kinda sad, was at the place I got him from and the ones there haven't grown at all since I got him 2 months ago. He's a little fat in the pic as the wife just got done feeding him 6 ramshorns.

Aw, he looks great!
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

Re: new fahaka quarantine
In any case, I would not use a 125 for a Fahaka. It does not have enough turning radius. I learned my lessons on tank sizes long ago - it is cheaper and far better to go to permanent homes ASAP, so I do agree with bertie 83. Moving up can happen too late for fish which should be big at maturity.

LO! Some folks would obviously disagree with that sentiment. Such as guy operating MFK...

Re: new fahaka quarantine
well it's been a while since any type of update... this puffer is now over 6"TL, just picked up his new 180 gal home today, which will open up his 75 for one of my other fish. It will be a few weeks before i get the room rearranged to fit his new home into it, but will try to post a pic or two once he's in it.
For now here is just a little vid of him having his daily meal on 3-24, ran out of memory card just before he got the crayfish...
on another note, time for another stupid question, most of my fish once they hit around 5" or so I drop their feedings to once every 2-3 days, do I dare do that with a fahaka? and if so at what size should I consider it, should I be doing that already?

Re: fahaka update 5-6-12 on page 2
You can drop his feeding now, he is getting suitably sized. Drop to every other day for now. That 180 will make a great home for him. Nicely done.
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly
