yep filter pool sand is generally is easier to clean

I'd opt for sand for your young fahaka , a lot of them at that age love to bury themselves in it .....

Mine has buried just fine in gravel all his life. As long as you don't use sharp gravel you are fine. It's your choice entirely

I used to have 4 Aquaclear 110s on my 120g. It looked weird because I could only fit 2 in the back, so I sold the other 2 (imagine the eye sore).

Now I have ~1000gph in my 120. I want to increase my gph. I was thinking about adding a canister to save space and filter more water. Then someone recommended me to buy a powerhead/circulation pump. I'm looking at this product: http://www.amazon.com/Hydor-Koralia-Evo ... 514&sr=8-1

It saves a lot more money than canisters. I'll just let my 2 Aquaclear 110s do the filtering and Koralia push the water around. Thoughts about this?

Btw I just soaked his food with prazipro (~3 drops) and he ate until his tummy was round.
I'm looking at him from the top view. Is this normal patterns for a young fahaka? The pics show something like a white spots, but they are actually yellowish. You can see the black strips and an "X" pattern on its back. The side of his body has the typical strip patterns of a fahaka.




2-3 more weeks until I transfer him to 120g. Thats enough time to get some sand.

It'll take him a while to go from mottled to good stripes. Glad he ate the medicated food. Feed it to him for a week, if you can.

young fahakas display cryptic colouring patterns .....this is so in their natural wild environment ( where at such a small size they are vunerable) they don't stand out and our less notable to predators .....and as they quickly grow and move up the food chain and become elite predators they start to show thier stripes .

The bottle says to dose the water once every 3-5 days. That doesn't apply when I soak the food, correct? I can just soak everyday for 1 week? Or soak his food once every 3-5 days? I have 16oz Vitachem to soak his food for the next several months It looks really potent.

I already bought some circulation pumps to help circulate the tank. What if I save the 2 circulation pumps for a future SW (ceylon?) setup and get a wet/dry system?

I could use my 2 HOB Aquaclear (<1000gph) + Eshopps wet/dry filters (<600gph). Thoughts?

While AquaClears are the best HOB filters you can buy (in my opinion) I would WITHOUT a doubt get a canister filter for this setup. Congrats on the Fahaka by the way! I've been looking for one locally for a year now with no luck at all.

I'm done medicating. I started last Tuesday and today is his fasting day.

I added 2 Fluval FX5 along with the 2 Aquaclear 110s. Now I got a total of 3000gph flowing through the tank
