my poor kitten

Post by DrKennethNoisewater »

this is one of the kittens that passed away due to malnutrition in the early stages of development. we found the cat starved and pregnant and took it in. (well my gf did) this one had a cleft pallet and couldnt nurse, so we got a tube feeder and fed it manually. it lived for 3 days and died from a different cause along with his brother. we still have one though and its very healthy!!!! eyes almost open.

p.s. not looking for sympathy just showing off a cute kitten!

It's so small! My wife and I have tried to rescue many animals with mixed success. Our most recent was a baby skunk who's mom had been killed by a car.
It's a crayfish! It's a snail! It's a... ah who cares?

Can we see the survivor?

I too have unsuccessfully tried to nurse abandoned babies that were very sick to begin with. You know they don't have much of a chance, but it's still devastating to lose something so tiny and furry that you have hand fed every two hours and thinks you're their mom.

+1. I agree completely, and yet it still feels good to have tried. The successes make it worth it. :)

agreed :) we havent taken any pictures of the survivor yet oddly enough... kind of a good thing though as thats the only one that lived. probably cause it was nursing properly and all that so we havent spent much time with that one. i will take some tomorrow morning.

I'll take care of kittens, but I'm quite allergic to cats and much prefer dogs. :) That would be a fun poll to have on the puffer forum, "Are you puffer people more fond of dogs or cats?".

I'm more a dog person, but the girlfriend is a cat person, and Turbo is the only cat I like, mostly because I think he thinks he is a dog...

one of the funnest pets we ever had was a baby raccoon named "Lucy"

we found it in our driveway one day and nursed it back to health and it was surprisingly personable and smart, it was like a mix between a cat and a dog, it would listen and do tricks and watching it eat was very cool with its hands

also adopted a baby squirrel that would up on our porch and nursed it back to health but it didnt like people that much

We rescued 3 baby squirrels when their mom fell down our chimney. They stole so much silverware and jewelry! lol. My favorite so far has been the baby skunk. It was a lot like you said the raccoon was. It didn't stink like an adult. We never got sprayed, but the storage room smelled like garlic even for months after we reintroduced it to the wild.

I raised a baby squirrel that had fallen out of its nest when I was in xray school. Use to walk around stores in my scrubs and he would hide in my shirt pocket and poke his head out once and a while. Was always funny to see someones reaction to this little head popping out looking around then hiding again. Had him for about a year when my dad "accidentally" left his outside cage open, my dad had always told me that once he was health and strong that he would be let free. He did hang around the house after that though.

Squirrels are amazing that way. They stick around the house, but don't seem to have any trouble adjusting to life in the wild.
