Endlers Livebearers

Post by Srkoe »

I have two male cobra endlers that were meant to be fed to my Congo. Well, my kids "saved" them and they are now in a tank with some female feeder guppies. They are relentlessly trying to mate with the guppies, even the pregnant one. I love watching these two guys! They do this crazy little mating dance for the guppies. They spread their tails as wide as they will spread, arch their bodies into an "s" and vibrate. It is so interesting to watch. I think I'm gonna dedicate another tank to them and breed them with guppies for feeders. I know the offspring is known to be infertile which is great because that will keep the population "somewhat" under control. So, has anyone here bred endlers and guppies? Any pics of the offspring?

I heard there offspring are fertile, I could have heard wrong though. If I remember correctly the fact that they do produce fertile offspring is the reason why it's so hard to find a pure breed Endlers Livebearer.

Yeah, I done a lot more research last night and found they are fertile. From what I read it's really hard to find a purebred female. I found some pics of hybrids and they are very pretty. I would love to breed them with some "wild type" guppies, which are beautiful as well.

I'm sure the babies will take awhile considering the females I have came pre-preggo...not to mention how much sperm they already have stored. I'm gonna go Monday to try to find some nice females to add. The Endlers never slow down!!! Pics might be impossible!

Upon more research I found I do not have cobra endlers, I have pure endlers. They were mismarked in the store. I did go back to pick some more up but they only had cobra endlers...which are a endler/guppy hybrid. I sure hope I can run across some more true endlers soon though, I love those little guys! I found a couple really pretty female guppy's to breed them with. One if the females just had fry...hopefully she'll start producing some hybrids in the coming months. They're just gonna be feeders but it's nice to have something pretty in the tank to look at in the mean time!

Two females had fry so far and I've only got about 15 fry...I'm guessing there wad more but they got eaten.
