Tank build 55l nano fowlr?

Post by bertie 83 »

So it begins, shrimp and crabs are no longer allowed to live in my main display tank due to a porcupine puffer. Due to a construction/planning error my sump is not under my tank ( I actually prefer this as access to sump is not restricted). I'm going to fill a fraction of the space with a 55l nano, this will be set into a viewing window so my kids don't smash it. So I traded some stuff for a nano - first step. Then explained to my wife my plan, this went down much better than planned yay! So I have tank, heater, small powerhead, substrate, over 200kgs of live rock and 150gallons of premixed saltwater. Ima little ocd or prepared as I like to call it. I need to cut a window in my stand and good to go, that's a job for tomorrow. But what do I put in there? Gonna add a couple of shrimp and hermits which was my main plan but what else? Ill have to trawl the Lfs this weekend to find something a little different. I will add a good scoop of substate from my established tank and 50% of the water needed to help boost the start up along with a mix of live rock from my tank and my sources to build a column up the middle. Will update as things progress. This is the tank

I was going to use this as a build thread, I should've combined really. Sorry.
Been quite limited on what I have been able to do, stripped the stand, put sand in and have tank in position. Need to find some flat live rock to make the shelves. Plan to fill it tomorrow all being well.

Some progress has been made. Full of water at 1.023 flowing round and heated. Need to raise the powerhead slightly to stop it from blasting the sand. Need to track down a couple of flat pieces of live rock to build the shelves. Once I found that I need to add sand from my main tank to boost critters etc, test then start thinking about inhabitants. Was thinking about a boxing shrimp to start, anyone rate or hate these?
Pic so far

Some progress has been made. Some live rock added, still need to find some more suitable bits to add and need to fit Perspex viewing window. Added a couple of hermits to keep it ticking over. Going shopping tomorrow
