New tank upgrade
Over this past weekend i've been setting up to replace my 29gallon high brackish tank with a 40 long. The tank is moving to full marine and I want more space for the gsp and the added equipment nessesary. I have suspended my 30" aquatic life t5ho fixture from the ceiling and installed a plug in the ceiling as well. In a few weeks I will be ordering a remora pro S skimmer. The current filtration is an ehiem g65 that I plan on keeping on the tank. I will be posting up picutres one I have the tank in place. The first question I had was on the cpr hob refugium. This tank is setup ontop of a bureau therefore I dont have a place below the tank to setup a sump. I came across one of these HOBs on clearance at a local store and was wondering if this is a worthwhile addon. The tank is stocked with a single gsp and the only tankmake I can invision is a sand sifter goby. Will either of these benefit from copepods or would a refugium just be for added filtration/algea reduction in the main tank?

Re: New tank upgrade
So I ended up getting the aqua fuge 2 medium kit . This comes with an included light. The light is tall and I am going to replace it with a slim led. This store also had buckets of fijimud on clearance as well. When I swap the tank out I am going to move all of the contense of the existing into the new and top off the water. Should I wait on the refugium untill im sure the levels in the new tank are stable or should I install right when the tank is swapped?

Re: New tank upgrade
Install it all at the get go, it saves a lot of messing around later on
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

Re: New tank upgrade
Everything is installed. Just waiting for the water to clear before posting up some pictures. I am ordering the remora tomorrow. As it stands now I have just a 2" layer of fijimud in the refugium. With the watter that was added to fill this brings me up to a 1.013 sg. At what salinity could I add some macro to the refugium?

Re: New tank upgrade
So here goes...
The previous 29g setup
The new tank
The back painted black
With the light fixture running close to $300 I did not want to buy another. So I picked up a suspension kit but one little problem... there is an AC register where one of the mounts needs to go.
So.. the register is moved and while I am up there I went ahead and put a plug in the ceiling so I wouldn't have a cord hanging down.
The test fit of the light with the ceiling patched before swapping the tanks
And, finally the new tank installed.

Re: New tank upgrade
I have started to replace the base rock with live rock. Put a 24" aquatic life edge led on the fuge. And I now have the last and only fish addition to the tank. A brown barred goby. I also bought my first coral a pulsing xenia which the gsp prompt ate half the polyps. This is now in the fuge

Re: New tank upgrade
1.021 I know it was a quick rise from my earlier posted sg. I had my gsp decline very quickly a few weeks back. I ended up dosing with prazi, which i believe saved this little guys life. White stringies the next morning. Due to the prazi I ended up doing more water changes than nornal but already had a 30g brute mixed with salt intened to raise my sg during my weeklk wcs. I have monitored closely and my cycle is still intact.
