I'm getting a Peacock Mantis :D

Post by Arny »

Finally I've found a Peacock Mantis. I ordered one ages ago and twice the LFS got the wrong Mantis. Found this guy on DreamReef.com

Very cool, how much? Be sure to give him a DSB & lots of rubble to play with.

He cost a lot of money, £90 delivered (ouch!), but it's something I've wanted for ages.

I've got a 55g tank, 20kg LR which he will share with a frogfish. I've divided it so the Frogfish has about 2 thirds of the tank

How deep would you recommend the sand to be PP?

3-4". No need to divide the tank, the mantis will not bother fish. Mine lives with a Bluespot toby & Green filefish. Do you know what that translates to US$?

I was more worried that the Frogfish will eat the Mantis

You are getting HUGELY ripped off but if it's worth it to you... I'd never pay more than $40 for one. How big are they both?

I know it's overpriced as when I was looking before they were going for £15 to £40. Because I had trouble before getting them from my LFS what with them getting the wrong Mantis twice I was just glad to get one that I know is defenatly a Peacock. All the other Mantis just hide in the rock and never come out in the day. Peacocks spend more time out in the day.

I don't know the exact size of the mantis and frogfish yet, I think the Mantis maybe around 6inches.

Mine almost never comes out of his cave. Although my last one was way more personable.

From what I have learned they should be kept in only a dimly lit tank like actinic lighting only. This will make for a much healthier and active mantis shrimp.

Ooooh, neat! Those things are awesomely creepy. Post some videos when you get it.
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."
