so would you recommend a fluval 250 canister for this 37 gallon. I have sand in the bottom of the tank so the bio wheel doesnt really keep it clear. I also decided to stay at a salinity of 1.018. I wasnt sure if the filter would be okay.

With the SG that high, I'd go up to 1.020 & add live rock & a protein skimmer. You'll be grateful you'll be doing way less water changes with this set up. ;)

Did you rinse the sand, and how long have you had it in the tank?

Also without the live rock would the skimmer be useless? I am also wondering if the tank is suppose to be kind of milky due to cycling never seen this before?

Yes, raise the SG .002/weekly water change.

You can use a skimmer without LR.

Are you not doing full marine simply cause the price of live rock? You can make your own live rock and just seed it with a small portion of real live rock. There are a lot of DIY live rock recipes online and on youtube. It's really cheap to make as well.

I just have a feeling if i buy live rock that im gonna want corals as well thats my only problem. I really just looking for a filter that will filter out all of the sand particulates that make the water a little milky.

and filter will do that if you put a fine enough media in it.

LR is your best filter for SW, the temptation for corals is a hard one to resist.......I failed lol
