The moss itself wouldnt pose any benefit imo. But then again the only drawback would be one more thing to clean underneath.

Feed any fish food that sinks, never used lettuce myself. Well only when trying to remove snails. I get manly plants from some of my lfs to put in, the snails munch on those plus they are free. Other than that I use sinking pellets like algae wafers and dump in left over meaty foods from other tanks
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

Snail populations are often self regulating based on food sources. I have found that if I am trying to breed lots of snails I over feed the tank with any fish food flake or pellets. You do have to maintain an aggressive and regular cleaning schedule to prevent poor water quality. This is why I tend to go bare bottomed with little decor, if any.

Re: Snails not breeding no more...
Here' an update...
I looked at the temp. in my mother's aquarium, a 20gallons that hold one 6" goldfish and a dozen of snails that actually produce eggs and my tank is about 5°F higher, so decided not to put a heater in mine.
I feed them now with little balls of food that had came with my 5gallons snail aquarium, they don't sink but the contact to the side of the glass makes them stick there and I see them eating them... The lettuce don't work no more so, I've stop giving them...
Now, it's been a week or so... that I have lots of eggs glued all over!!! So I'll give them the chance to grow before feeding the puffer with them...
