Setting up 230G! Puffer ideas?

Post by JustinPSmith »

I just got a 230G marine ready set up for my birthday and would like to keep only puffers in it. Maybe a few other small fish but mostly puffers. I am definitely going to get a porc. puffer and was wondering what if any other types of puffers would be compatible with him in a 230G? I am only going with live rock and maybe a few corals that the puffers with leave alone. Any ideas?

Wow congratulations! And happy belated birthday.

By marine ready do you mean the tank is drilled? I can wish to have a tank that size... but for now I will live vicariously through you lol.

Dogface would work!

I believe someone on here posted pictures of a Dogface, Porc., Niger Trigger in a tank similar to the size u have there.

Hahaha..Thanks but my this was actually a early birthday present. My whole family pitched in and got it for me. Now I have to buy the skimmer though! I also need to make the sump ect. But Im looking forward to the project! And yes, I meant that it is drilled and the stand actually has specific shelves set up for sump, refugium ect. Really nice stand.

I would love a Fahaka but I really wanted to stay marine with this one...although it sounds so tempting! I will have to think about it!

I will not be able to set this tank up for a few months anyways...probably not until the new year unfortunately.

A few Dog faced puffs sounds cool though. Just wanted to start thinking about it and see what you all though!

Thanks

Yeah as far as I know the Dogface is a rather placid species.

I would hate to see the bill for your L/R for that tank....lol

Don't worry if you can't find a Porc I'm sure you would be fine with one of these

Live rock is the reason it will not be started until after the new year! I cant afford it all right now! I dont know all the dimensions, but I do know that it is 6' feet long and I think it is something like 6' x 2' x 3'. It is quite tall. I love the size though. My dad said that they were looking at one that was 8' long but thought it was way too long. I know they got a really good deal too because my dad is friends with an Oceanic aquarium dealer here in Canada!

Actually my LFS does sell sharks but only along with one of their 2,000 G tanks...which cost $16,000 each! They do have porc puffers all the time, so finding one isnt a problem! Its just whether or not I want one...

one ofmy LFS's had small sharks for sale last time i was in there, although i think a 230g is too small for one.

Go fresh water.... and do something like 23 dp's or something crazy.

To be honest, if sticking with salt water, why not go reefer and forget the puffers for that tank....you can have saltwater puffers in smaller Fish only tanks if you really wanted. A 230g reefer would be insane.

For sump ideas: http://www.melevsreef.com

I think a porc, dogface & trigger would be a fantastic combo!
