Actually Diodon holocanthus usually do not eat/nibble on corals - may nibble on urchins, snails & crabs though.

The only problem with them in a reef tank (from personal experience as well as relayed experiences from many hobbyists) is they may knock over corals when they get excited especially at feeding times or they may lay on them.

Puffers do create a higher bioload and thus if kept in a reef, filtration and water changes must be a high priority as many corals do not tolerate elevated nitrate levels.

I have a GSP that only bothers my snails... poor SOB's never had a chance.

He has never bothered any of my corals. It might be because he is slow or that I feed him twice a day.

Just my experience, I'm sure many others have not had such luck.

I have a porc and some button polyps and a few other corals, and it works fine. Maybe it's just luck, I don't know, but he has no interest in them. Maybe it's just because he's young..?

My GSP and Valentini harrassed my Chocolate Chip Starfish.

All Puffers attacked the hermits that were smaller than them.

Burrfish like the ones I had are not reef friendly but you can add LR.

They even ate my small hog choker.
