porky or dogface for my new 210
porky or dogface for my new 210
ok so I want some input on behavior on porcupine puffers and dogface puffers. my main display tank broke completely and drained down to 4 inches on Saturday. it was horrible to put it mildly. I am home by myself, its midnight, and the back left corner of silicone broke down the center all the way to the bottom. The tank drained down to 4 inches in less than 4 minutes. I am getting a 210 to replace my old tank. Which means I can get a big puffer now!!!! I am trying to decide between a dog face puffer and a porcupine. I plan on having tangs, pair of percula clowns, blennies, anthias, possibly a niger trigger, bird wrasse, melanurus wrasse, dwarf angels. I want one that will be happy in the 210 long term. So help me decide!!! thank you!!

I think it's all about your personal puffer-taste.
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

I love dogface as they're very timid and friendly. But I'd go with the porcy as they are very interactive and lively.
Re: porky or dogface for my new 210
Which one is less aggressive in general? I know that each individual varies. I want to keep a lot of smaller fish in the tank as well so preferably a puffer that is less likely to eat them. Firefish, anthias, blennies, gobies, basslet.

I, myself, like the dogface, but like Pufferpunk stated, it is totally your preference. Let us know what you decide and post pics. BTW - very sorry to hear about your horrific tank incident!!
Re: porky or dogface for my new 210
I am leani g towards the dogface I think. But I have always loved porkies so I really don't know. A lfs about an hr away gets in large shipments of puffers every 2 weeks so I will probably just go up there and see what strikes my fancy but I haven't done much research into either because I know that I would want one so bad and I thought that it would be atleast 5-10 years for me to have a tank that was large enough to keep one. I really wanted a Naso tang but I have been told that they need atleast an 8 ft tank so I am thinking about the dogface to replace the look of the Naso

Also, I have a valentini that I will be putting in there as well. Will that be a problem?

I definitely would NOT put a valentini with a larger species puffer.

I second that you shouldn't put a smaller puffer with a larger one. It only asking for disaster. If you already have a Valentini, I HIGHLY suggest not getting the porky or dogface.

This is the bible I use regarding fish compatibility: http://www.liveaquaria.com/general/comp ... _chart.cfm
I would personally be cautious about puffers with basslets and blennies. The mix of wrasses also would catch my eye in regards to caution.

Re: porky or dogface for my new 210
So plans might be changing. I was down by the water tonight and what appears to
Be baby striped burr fish came over to the
Dock. I caught them in a bucket and brought them home. I will post a picture once I get them acclimated. I am using
Fresh made saltwater in a qt tank, so if I decide that I don't want them then I can bring them back to where I found them. I live in Beaufort South Carolina, very close to the Georgia border. Will post pic
Soon for positive id. What are the opinions on these guys?
