A lil help plzz :D

Post by King E.X. »

Hello, I recently bought a relatively small porcupine puffer. He's about 4-5 inches big and is sadly living in a tiny 10 gallon tank :( I was planning on upgrading him to a 50 gal tank which would be completely his with no other tank mates but I was still wondering if this would be big enough. If not how long would this be suitable until he out grows it. Also I would appreciate any known problems to keeping a porc puffer in an undersized tank.

I don't own a porcupine puffer, but from what I read on this forum you should have him in a 100+gallons tank, even small it's still a messy fish so it's not right now the amount of room he's got it's more the water quality...But eventually he will be too big for a 50 gallon tank... I'd say right now he's too big for a 10gallon tank but I'll let the expert light you up more on this...

Thanks for the help :D but my next question is, how long would it roughly take before my porky outgrows his 50 gal. I'm assuming his growth has already been stunt at least a lil since his previous owners had him in that 10 gal for about 6 months.

I'd like to get him a 100 gal, but since I currently don't have the funds I was wondering if he'd be fine in the 50 gal for at least a few months.

At the size he is the 50g will be tight, very tight. Whilst it will be better than the 10 g you should be shooting for his forever home immediately. A tank in the region of 150 g will suffice but bigger would be beneficial to him. He will likely already be stunted but with the correct care should still live a long life.
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly
