New here and New to puffers.

Post by Anothernewb »

Hello all, I'm Chad. I'm from western Oklahoma. I'm new to puffers and marine tanks. Have ran brackish and freshwater for years. I currently have a 55 gallon cichlid tank, a 55 gallon brackish tank w/GSP and a 75 gallon marine tank with dogfaced puffer. I just got the dogface and it does not have interest in live food or snails. I know they need a shelled food to trim there beaks as I learned with my GSP. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I should add that I have a 30 gallon breeder tank for ramshorn snails and ghost shrimp w/divider. I also feed frozen brine shrimp and krill.

I'll try my hardest lol. Any tricks to get them to eat hard food or any different types of hard food that are affordable.

Welcome to the forum. Will the puffer eat crabs?

There are three emerald crabs in the tank and he doesn't pay them any attention. Did get him to chase a ghost shrimp a little today. But as soon as it rounded the rock he spun in circles like he was chasing his tail looking for it. Worried about his beak, was slightly uneven on top when I got him and I can't get him to eat snails.

Welcome!

It is nice to find a fellow Puffer enthusiast from the same state! I was out storm chasing in West Oklahoma a few weeks ago. ;)

BTW I just seen this tonight: http://www.kjrh.com//dpp/news/local_new ... t-for-okla

I will try that tonight. Thank you for the advise. Where are you from SGTMyers. And are you still in the military?

I am actually in Tulsa, I was in the military for a very brief time but medical liabilities forced me out before I could complete basic. :( The screenname is merely a carry over from my ID in a paintball unit called the 899th Blackcats as we take part in a big scenario paintball game called Oklahoma D-Day which reenacts WWII.
