Re: Feeding crayfish to my mappa
If you promise you will upgrade at the end of this year, he should be OK in the 90g, since he's so small now. I feed a lot of FW foods to my SW animals (mostly live blackworms) but soak as mentioned & feed ground plankton to the worms, while soaking in the fridge.
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

Thanks PP-
Do you feed cocckles? Any idea where to get them? I see you live in chicago also. I was hoping you could tell me where you go to get these things. Ive never heard of them. So, what kind of tank size should I be looking to upgrade to?

I recently found vacuum-packed bags of frozen mussels at Tony's.

Re: Feeding crayfish to my mappa
When its time to upgrade the tank, what dimensions should I be looking for to house this mappa puffer? Is my idea of using LR and A protein skimmer a good long term idea or is a wet dry absolutely neccessary?
Re: Feeding crayfish to my mappa
You shouldn't need a wet and dry, but I have no personal experience operating one. I heard something about nitrate spikes, and decided against it. So they may be great, it's just not what I've heard.
I might be wrong, but my personal guide, which applies to most not-so-flexible active fish, is at least 4-5X the adult max length of the fish for the length of the tank, and at least 2x the length of the fish for the width.

Minimum, 250g but I'd recommend 2x that:

Re: Feeding crayfish to my mappa
Yeah, i know about wetdry and nitrates. Im just wondering if there willbe enough filtration on the tank. Im also woried about the deep sand bed getting clogged with detritus. Would a bare bottom sump with LR and algae be smarter?sevenyearnight wrote:You shouldn't need a wet and dry, but I have no personal experience operating one. Would 20% weekly water changes be sufficient? This will be the only fish.Pufferpunk wrote:Minimum, 250g but I'd recommend 2x that:

Re: Feeding crayfish to my mappa
For the moment I am running a DSB refugium with reverse daylight algae growing. Tank is full of live rock and oversized protein skimmer. Am looking into an ozonizer for my skimmer.sevenyearnight wrote:You shouldn't need a wet and dry, but I have no personal experience operating one. What is your reasoning for ozone? Very dangerous to use.
