Is a box fish a puffer?

Wife found this guy and thought it was funny. I thought it was cool, but at $700+ not sure if it is THAT cool

For some reason it makes me want to go get a orange creamsicle. Nice looking fish though.

New dream fish

J-P lets me and you save up $350 each, then we could share custody. I'll take him in the winter and you can have him in the summer. Transportation would be a nightmare, but that is one awesome fish!

haha thanks guys ... never saw one before.. prior to this it was a Porcy puffer #1 #2 was a blue box fish, #3 Lion Fish, #4 BR Octo, #5 anything that will fit in my 210

Now that I have seen creamsicle.... well that list is getting shifted. The listings on the site are $700-$900 not including shipping. CRAZY!!

I told my wife to look into it

We still have a few tanks to spare

Not sure on what its classification would be, but It does reminde me alot of a tobey. Just a really creamsicle like tobey.

If it's a box fish, they are not puffers (but they're related). But they do have the same toxins as puffers, and that's the dangerous part of them. Box fish and cow fish can release that toxins into the water, and wipe out a whole tank with it (including themselves). That can be a very expensive experience!

Boxfish very rarely release their ostracitoxin in home aquaria. Just don't have any rowdy tankmates and you should be fine. Running lot's of carbon usually eliminates at least most of the toxin too if it does happen to release some; at least enough to bring it down to a somewhat safe level.

That's a really awesome looking fish, but consider the fact that they (anoplocapros lenticularis) are a temperate species requiring temperatures around 16 degrees Celsius (61 F) so you'd need a chiller. They grow to about 13" in the wild (not sure about captivity).

Please do remember that if captives do not reach or exceed wild size, you are not doing it right.

Your fish should easily reach wild size and exceed wild lifespan - the you are doing it right.
