ammonia testing in brackish water....which colour chart?

Post by 1st timer »

On the freshwater chart it shows .25 ppm and on the saltwater chart it's at zero. Which chart should i rely on?

What's the SG?
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

I remember there was a thread started on this forum that was about how to read the ammonia level with low-end brackish water. I think the verdict was that the colour for zero amm. will be closest to the FW chart, but will be slightly muddied by a slight green-brown tinge as a result of salt content. It really does make it difficult to have full confidence when taking a reading. :?
But based on your image, I'd agree that yours does appear to be undetectable.

If you have .25 nitrite then your cycle is incomplete... a completed cycled should read 0 amm. and 0 nitrite, + some nitrate. Should have waited for the cycle to be completed before introducing the puffer.
Keep up on large daily water changes so that nitrite doesn't harm the puff.
