Murderous Rampage

So I put 5 ghost shrimp in with my F8, Hula, after a week's QT. I thought it would be fun for her to be able to hunt and feed as she pleased for a couple days. I watched her track down and gobble up one of them, then she went on her merry way and I left the room.

Came back an hour later to 4 decapitated ghost shrimp, heads and body parts scattered all over the sand, and one smug-looking puffer swimming around happily. Seems that even if we're not hungry, those shrimp MUST. DIE. NOW.

Yep, most of the time you cant keep feeders and puffers in the same tank without it becoming something like a Friday the 13th movie...lol Misery (my congo puffer) would slaughter all the feeder fish in the tank before I sepperated them. Well I just maybe added 2 in the beginning before I stop using live feeder fish all together. That is why I named him/her Misery...lol

The 60 ghost shrimp I added to my fahakas tank friday to last him this week whilst I was away were all gone instantly. I added them in two stages aswell. I bet he is finning ( kicking) himself now lol, no food since Monday and no chance of food til Friday

I tried something new and placed two dozen live ghost shrimp in my GSP's tank and it was quite intriguing watching the puffers try to hunt and catch them all. Its been a week and I have not seen any of them. However does anyone remember the part in the 2nd Jurassic Park movie where the guy gets ripped in half by the two T-Rex's? I saw a similar scenario happen with a shrimp versus 2 puffers the other day.

Yeah, my Congo used to bite his feeder fish in half and left heads and half chewed up bodies lying all over the place.

It really does not work to co-house predators and prey in the confines of hobby tanks. But everybody has to learn that for themselves.

Wasn't trying to co-house them per se, was just hoping that my puffer would eat them as hunger moved her, not just kill 'em for sport all at once. :D
