Do dwarf puffers /need/ snails?

Post by moose »

Hello, I have some dwarf puffers that are going well. Today, I added some African Ram Horn Snails. My biggest puffer pretty much immediately ate the eyestalk off one snail. I feel quite bad for the snail, especially when my dwarf puffers will eat bloodworms.
I know that the larger puffers need snails to keep their teeth down, but do dwarf puffers need the same thing? I'd rather not keep snails in there with them if they're just going to slowly die.

No, they do not need snails. They do not have the common overgrown tooth problem other puffers have. I'd feel sorry for those snails too!

Thanks so much for answer. I'm going to remove the snails today. They are really cute and my biggest puffer, Potato, won't leave the snails alone!
