I'd suggest about three weeks. What fish are on the other end of the divider?

He'll split the tank (divided) with a T. palembangensis.

Okay, how big is the tank? Just so you know, if it is not heavily planted around the divider, this will happen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhx_Iu39AhI

Re: Left cichlids for puffers
They will share a 40B for a while. I have a 75 if needed. I'll keep that video in mind. The dragon puffer hardly moves out of his log. Each might not even know the other fish exists...The hairy is aggressive though!

Okay, it's fine as long as they don't often see each other. You will need to use a bigger tank eventually, and the sooner the better. The hairy needs about 25 gallons and the Palembang needs about 40.

Re: Left cichlids for puffers
I have a question: It seems that hairy puffers are much more active than dragon puffers, so why is the tank size for the dragon so much bigger than for the hairy?

Re: Left cichlids for puffers
Contrary to what the Pufferpedia says, hairy puffers only grow to about 5 inches, but Palembang puffers grow to about 9. Also, you most likely have an unusually active hairy puffer.

Re: Left cichlids for puffers
You may find the hairy becomes less active with time, mine was always on the go for the first month or two, to the point I was wondering why they're classified as lurkers, but now is much more sedate, just getting excited around feeding time!

Re: Left cichlids for puffers
Very nice group of puffers you have there.
My hairy puffer was more active as a youngster and would just layout in the open. As he has gotten older he hides in his driftwood cave. He still is super outgoing when he sees me and comes out looking to be fed. They are an awesome puffer species to own. Good choice!

My red Congo puffer didn't bury himself for the first two months, and now he's always buried in the sand.
