So Excited!

Post by pollypuff »

My LFS is getting a few C. Salivator in next week and I am seriously considering acquiring one. They are rather costly, about $40.00 CAD. Does anyone have any tips on keeping this species? I read on the pufferpedia their care is about the same as the puffers I already own - c. lorteti and dwarf puffers - but I would love to hear from anyone who has kept this species before.

Yep, you are correct, same care. Keeping it alone in a 10g?
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

That was my thought. Looks like I'm spending the weekend setting up another tank :P

I thought they had to be in a 20 gallon? Are they extremely nocturnal?
20 gallon: Attempting live plants. AC 50. Small gravel substrate. Current LED Light + set on plant setting 8 hours daily. Driftwood and rainbow stone.

10 gallon: Aqueon Quiet flow 20. Blue pet store gravel. Crown tail betta (walmart rescue).

A 20 is recommended but if they are like the c. lorteti a single fish I think would do fine in a 10 gallon. And by single fish I mean exactly that, one fish and nothing else except some trumpet snails which is how I have my c. lorteti now. That being said, I am considering upgrading to a 30 gallon for my 3 pea puffers in which case I'll have an empty 20.

A few days ago I added indian almond leaves to their tanks. I have noticed an increase in activity among all my puffers now that the water is brown. So while I don't know about the nocturnal part, I do think they prefer dim water if that makes sense.
Here is a pic of my 10 gallon. You can even see my puffer popping up to say hello on the left :P
