Very small amount of salt in a dwarf puffer tank

Post by moh »

I was at my LFS getting the remainder of the stuff to setup my tank. The guy there told me to put a half teasoon of salt in the 20 gallon tank, to help prevent parasites, etc. Ive read dwarf ouffers are completely freshwater and Ive read some articles saying tiny bits of salt. He talked me into buying a $4 box of salt, but now Im not sure

Well first thing did they sell you aquarium salt or marine salt? Second, and other members can chime in here but, I've always heard of salt treatments to be an isolated bath rather than treating the tank.

If my math is right, which it rarely is, you made a 0.025% solution of salt water. That amount will not hurt your DPs at all. Neither will it hurt parasites in my opinion.

I've heard the same, Welch. I've always used it as a bath.

Its aquarium salt for freshwater. I kinda doubted the nessecity of it, but I may need it down the road anyway. What are salt water baths for? If they get parasites, wouldnt I have to treat the whole tank anyway?
