Need some ideas for a 55 gallon.
I just sold my african cichlids so now I have a open 55 gallon. I would really like to get into keeping freshwater or possibly brackish puffers. This Is why I joined this forum. What freshwater puffer would you recommend for a 55 long?

I considering the figure 8 puffer. How many can I put in a 55? Also as for the swarm of pea puffers that would be too expensive because they are like ten bucks at my pet store.

I'd rather have a single GSP or Ceylon in there.

I find them to be very personable & prefer larger puffers.

Re: Need some ideas for a 55 gallon.
^ It's also only 1 fish to feed, 1 fish to clean up after, 1 fish to make sure is eating and healthy, etc...
That said, I've always wanted a larger capacity planted tank that was teaming with DPs. I just currently don't have the dedication to watch over that many fish. Don't get me wrong though, when mine was up and running (only 3DPs), a nicely kept, heavily planted freshwater tank is very rewarding and stunning to look at.
I think it is going to come down to personal preference. Do you want a single 5-6" blimp, two to three 3" blimps, or a large herd of 1" blimps? Do you want to janitor over a saltwater, freshwater, or brackish tank? Do you have the time to ensure multiple fish are healthy vs. looking after one? I've had all 3 (DPs, F8, and GSP). I currently have a GSP that I'm currently setting up for a FOWLR. Its personality has probably been my favorite of the bunch.
You cant go wrong any way in my opinion. They are all entertaining.

I guess I would prefer one big fish though. I like Ceylon puffer the thing is arent they way more expensive than a figure 8? Also are they low end brackish or are they going to need almost full saltwater parameters? I apologize if I sound stupid.

PufferPedia will help you out there. Ceylon if I recall correctly are high end brackish/marine. If you do a quick forum search, you will score tons of topics re: Ceylon.

Ceylon is the exact same care as a GSP. You can raise the SG over a few years, so you have tine to adjust to keeping SW.

Would a figure 8 puffer and a flounder work in a 55 gallon low end brackish tank work?
