Question: How do I safely move puffer

Post by WendyKL »

Hi,

I am planning on "upgrading" my pea puffer from a 2.5 gallon to a 5 gallon - I plan on getting the five gallon up and running with a heater and a filter (let run for 24 hours) - then I will transfer the filter from the established 2.5 gallon into the 5 gallon - along with decorations, gravel and plants and some of the water - then acclimate puffer to five gallon - does this seem like a good plan or will this method put too much stress on the puffer? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. I also have the "bacteria in a bottle" stuff for quickly setting up a tank.

As you will need to acclimatise your puffer I would not worry about adding any of the old water. Just check the parameters are closely matched and re-acclimatise as if it's a new fish
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

I would use all the old water, substrate & filter media from the smaller tank. Décor, too, of you're planning on using it. It'll be just like a normal 50% water change. No need for extra bacteria.
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

Yeah what pp said! Just put the puff into a cup or something similar sized while you move everything then just put the whole cupful of water into the 5g :)
Never trust big puffers. The fingers you save may be your own. -RTR

Thanks so so much - this is very helpful - new to puffers but not new to planted community tanks, cichlids, etc.
