New congo puffer

Post by PUFFERBOY »

Hi looking for some help here Iv got my self a wild congo puffer his about 4 cms.. He is in a 110L tank with 2 big internal filters. Iv got some feeder fish in with him atm and his happy to help his self very amazing watching him hunt. I just wanted to know he doesnt take to frozen food atm. Im going to get him some live river shrimp at the weekend and possibly some worms from the garden. Has any one on here got history of getting wild congos onto frozen food? Also would like to know how fast these puffers grow? Atm i have frozen blood worm.. And cockles and feeder fish. What other foods should i use to his diet? Would love some help please?

It takes some patience: library/feeding/problems-feeding-your-puffer/

NO FEEDERS! Please read: library/feeding/feeders/
Try earthworms.

Very similar species, same care & feeding: library/puffers-in-focus/arrowhead/

You can try live pond or ramshorn snails... I think lurkers will only go for something that's moving at first... Once they're used to you, they will gladly munch on whatever you put in the tank lol. My turgidus have learned when feeding time is and get a little active :)

These species won't touch snails.

mine likes shrimp & clam meat, frozen several days (kills parasites), then defrosted in tank water, fed as a large chunk
you can soak in or drop on some vitamins before dropping into tank
frozen/defrosted large krill occasionally
feeder fish are OK now & then, but ONLY home grown (commercial feeders may come with any type of disease or parasites)
earthworms from the garden are OK as long as there are no fertilizers or pesticides involved
I use fishing worms from bait stores

:0! That's interesting! My turgs haven't bothered the nerite snails I added to their tank... I'd love to try other snails, but I think they'd get nipped at :/

Please remove the pleco! Poor fellow is doomed!!! Mine ate everything but the skull of a 5" pleco in 1 evening.
Good you got him on dead foods. Mine doesn't like muscle meat much.
