red eye 16 gal tank

Post by rabbit91476 »

been about 3 years since my red eye tweek passed away. tired of the kids picking short term fist. wash thinking about picking up at 16 gal bow tank for a red eye. Do you think it would be ok for 2 a male and a female. not to breed.

Stick with DPs if you want more than 1 fish in there. 1M & 2F or 3F.

Will stick with one red eye then. I really like that fish. Small and agressive

Yeah and besides most red eyes don't tolerate each other... My turgidus only get along when they're breeding or scared of the big yellow glove I wear to clean their tank and feed them lol

I think he's referring to the smaller species.

I know that :P but I've seen smaller ones in the lfs and they didn't take kindly to their own kind...

Irrubescos are mellower...Not completely nice, but normally with enough planting/decor breaking line of sight, they do more intimidation charges than real biting attempts. They also play nice when feeded, surprisingly so. no attack to get access to food, but more like a sharing with the dominant taking more but the other still have access to plenty. Conflict seems more related to territory, especially access to "safe" resting places. I have multiple caves/dense plants, but there is a particular spot under a root that looks like prime puffer real estate because both my male and female want it.

In my case, they also ignore other fishes (guppy and one travancoricus), especially now that they are 2. Even guppy fry seems safe, but I would not mind if they get guppy snacks from time to time. Guppies breed a lot ;)

16G seems a bit small for 2 though...maybe with a lot of surface area? what's the L,w,h of the tank?
