My amazon puffer (Colomesus asellus) won't eat snails

Post by Diwer »

My two amazon puffers (Colomesus asellus) won't eat snails, shrimp, or anything shelled like they're supposed to. I have had them almost a month, and thought at first it could just be that they were just getting situated, but now I'm worried. I've tried multiple snail types, shrimp, etcetera, and even left stuff in their tank over night ... But nothing. They wouldn't even eat a ghost shrimp... Even after skipping a day of feeding (this is what my lfs said to try) still nothing. I'm seriously worried. They aren't starving to death though, they eat up blood worms and brine shrimp like candy, but what will I do about their beaks?

Thanks in advance for your time :)

IDK how large the snails are you're offering them but if they are larger than their eye, I suggest crushing the snails.

+1 to the above, try crushing them.
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

Better read the Dentistry article in our Library then. ;)

Hmm I was afraid that'd be my only solution, It looks like quite the ordeal. I guess my only questions now are when exactly should dentistry be used? (The moment they can't eat the food they normally destroy?) and is Tricaine-S (MS 222) by Western Chemical Inc. the proper stuff to buy for when the time comes?
