Hi all! I just wanted to update you since you all were so helpful to me regarding stocking suggestions etc. when I was planning my tank.
I had initially been thinking I would get 2-3 puffers for a 20 gallon, but I just felt I couldn't reliably sex them at the pet store, so I decided to go with just one for a 5.5 gallon I got him 3 days ago. He is eating well and has gotten a little bit more bold/curious. I believe it is a male, but feel free to confirm/deny that. He is currently getting live black worms and pond snails. I got some frozen blood worms but haven't tried them yet.
Here's his tank currently. I am still waiting on some plants to get shipped (in the meantime I have thrown in some cuttings from another tank, to make the tank more jungly than you see in this pic)
here's the little guy:

Defiantly a female. She's lovely and the tank looks great to

Really!? Well there you go, glad I didn't try to sex them at the store, I was certain this was a male! Thanks for the input on that!Arny wrote:Defiantly a female. She's lovely and the tank looks great to

The fish might be a bit more secure with a background on the tank. It looks a bit open to me.

Those are some great shots! What made you think it is a male? I see no wrinkles behind her eyes.
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

Well from what I've read young puffers look similar and do not develop the wrinkles until later? I just thought it was male because the coloring looked darker than what I've seen on female puffers in pics and I thought she was not as round as a female typically is I guess
Re: My first Dwarf Puffer! :)
I noted in my initial post that there are a bunch of plant cuttings in the tank right now until I get the rest of the plants for this tank (those cuttings are not pictured in the tank shot I posted )RTR wrote:The fish might be a bit more secure with a background on the tank.
