Food variety
Food variety
My Fahaka puffer, Buster only likes frozen blood worms and snails. He has no interest in shellfish. How can I get him to eat other things besides blood worms and snails? lol Doesn't he know that crab and shrimp are delicious??

Re: Food variety
I dont have the experience with puffers in this regard, but with fussy and even wild caught fish I have dealt with, I find you need to be persistent. Fish will (and do) train us as to what they like. You sometimes have to apply a little tough love to help them eat the things they really need and not just what they want.

Re: Food variety
Try soaking the food in garlic. Most puffers can not resist it

I remove the meat from mussels, and wiggle it about on the end of the forceps. Pig won't touch them in the shell.
Never trust big puffers. The fingers you save may be your own. RTR

Re: Food variety
Have you tried earthworms yet? I have not found many fish that will ignore a wiggling earthworm. Even my big vegetarian fishes ate them.

Re: Food variety
wasn't interested in earthworms when he was teeny, but I'll try again now that he's bigger. I almost forgot about earthworms! Didn't think of wiggling clam meat either! thanks for all the ideas everyone!
Re: Food variety
oh yeah...and Buster hates garlic LOL! he turned his nose up at garlic soaked bloodworms and blood worms are like candy to him! What I was attempting was to see if I could disguise other types of stuff with garlic but obviously it didn't work, the brat LOL
