When my DPs were young, they'd suck the insides out of the bloodworms and leave the casing behind. As they grew, they started eating the whole worm.

Cool pics. I would advise you to start ip treatment as their tummys look a bit pinched, when soaking food in the meds add crushed garlic and a vitamin supplement. I would start now to be safe and get the meds into them whilst strong

I saw the pics... IP treatment is always advisable.

If they are eating, and staying pinched than definitely yea, IP treatment. Getting them to eat is the first phase of the battle.

If they are eating actively, treat for IPs, and possible add a vitamin water solution during the thaw period. You can also try mysis shrimp. That might bulk them up more than the popcorn blood worms.

yeah, they are eating really well (they even eat the food that they don't get while it's falling (so they eat it even when it isn't moving) and staying pinched so I'll definitely treat for IPs (and pick up some mysis shrimp)...

strange question: do you eat or someone you know, eats strawberries?

The reason I ask is that you can turn that green cage upside down and stuff it with java moss. You can breed red cherry shrimp in that as feeders for your puffers.

Point 1) make sure the slits are too small for the puffers to get into. This is important. I can't stress this enough.

Point 2) The DP should skirt the edges and pick off the fry.

Point 3) adding shrimp to a puffer dominated tank AFTER the puffers have been introduced is a toss up. Sometimes it will work some times it won't.

It is just an idea tossed out there.

I read your question first and I was very freaked out...

That's a really neat idea though, I might have to do that... they may not realize that the shrimp are food at first since they've never seen them before lol
but how will the rcs get in there?

the moss is a spawning ground for them. It will attract them. You don't need the strawberry box per-se, but it does keep things nice and tidy. I got the idea from a salt water set up where they do the same thing. It is called a "pod box" where they stuff the strawberry container with cheto so that the pods can breed with minimal disturbance from the fish.

I haven't tried in with a DP but the theory is the same.

I have done the java moss and shrimp in a DP tank with much success and others have also. Just minus the strawberry container ;)
