Many people feel big tanks dedicated to one fish will be quite boring, but once they get a puffer they realize it's not boring at all. However, if you feel like you will not be happy with one fish, don't get the puffer. Go for a school of a single species or something. Don't mix puffers with other fish though as it will end badly and it's only cruelty to the one who is eaten.

We will see, the girl friend really has her heart set on a puffer, and I have always wanted to have one as well.

The large guys have so much personality, you can just tell when you see them in stores.

As long as we are back onto that subject...will play sand do fine?

How deep should it be?

Im really not a fan of the deep sandbed thing as it traps so much waste, and unlike gravel you cant vacuum it.

I use playsand in my puff's tanks with no issues. As long as you clean it first, and make sure its a good one that's got no bits in it you should be fine. You can always sieve it too just in case.

Any sand deeper than 1", must be stirred thoroughly, weekly.

Sands fine for when your fahakas very small but as they get bigger and cause more mess you'll find the sand a bugger to keep clean and a fine gravel is a lot easier to maintain , also sand is very supscetible to BGA especially in puffer tanks where theres a lot of excess nutrients due to waste .

As a barebottom guy, when I do have sand, it gets vacuumed very thouroughly.

Will PFS (pool filter sand) work? Its a little coarser so that you can clean it with a vac.

When I do use play sand I always completely mix up the tank so that the waste all settles ou ton top before cleaning the tank.

I cant seem to find the jungle parasite except in the form of tabs - which wont work as I have been told to soak the food. Anyone know where I can get liquid stuff to soak food in?

I have had issues with pacu destryoing equipment in ponds and tank before - should I sump this tank so that I can keep a heater away from my puffer?

Its officially decided that I am going to go this route as well btw.

Oh, and another thing. Im searching for marmokreb crayfish - they arent illegal to have in my state, but they are illegal to "import". What should I do?

Get the tab for the IPs, put both the tab (like 1/2 of it) and food in some tank water (in a separate container) and soak it that way. I don't think a liquid of that stuff even exists.

You can do a sump if you want to, but I doubt it's needed. If the crayfish are illegal to import try to find a shop selling them in your area. They are considered an invasive species in most places, so that may be hard if they're illegal to import. You can just find some other sort of crayfish to breed though, and breed snails and shrimp as well.
