im using an old guppy tank did a 75 percent water change, about 2 dozen guppies and 3 crays inside now. im using a marineland 29 gal filter, standard lighting, heater, 3 inches of black sand, anacharis, and lava rocks. is there any tips or advice you could give me to improve the husbandry for my puffer? im picking him up today after work:D

Be sure to remove all the inhabitants in there now, before adding the puffer. I'd make that substrate about 25% red gravel, with 75% black sand, to ensure the redness on the puffer, otherwise, it;s going to become very dark. My red miurus was much redder when purchased.

Here he was the day I got him. That plastic plug is 1" across:

Ok i have to Pck up somemore sand today. Should i get red or orange? The water temp is at 78. And ill make sure to remove the stiff in the tank before introducing him. Thank u guys so much for the info, ill be posting pics and a video as soon as i get him settled in.

Mix it in. The puffer will do that anyway & you're going to have to stir that sand weekly.

i know a rick and a alika but there not related lol :D. but i got him from aquaticimportshawaii.com this guy is my new best friend lol check his site out. he got some cool stuffs, i was gonna get the hairy puffer but he was too ugly lol my red congo puffer is getting settled in hasnt left the bottom of the tank, and lets just say he got rid of most of the guppies for me already :D the water is at 73 and climbing i want to get it into the high 70s. any more advice for me?

i also bought a tetra heater theres no dial on it. the instructions say it stops at 80. should i buy a new heater?

Depends on how stable it keeps the temperature, but it would be useless if you had to treat him for ick.
My bro in law is Rick Perreira, not sure how many thee are in Mililani.

Non-adjustable heaters are the demise of everything!...Okay, maybe they're not, but I definitely recommend an adjustable one. I lost a whole community tank before just because I didn't have an adjustable heater.
