99% possible downtime

Post by Dadof4 »

Hey everyone!

After a long review, many a furrowed brows, some wailing and gnashing of teeth, and some serious wringing of the hands we have come to the conclusion that this site needs an upgrade (said in his best Jack Nicholson/Joker voice). So this is a warning to all that on Monday December 20, 2010 A.D., at 11 P.M. CST, Scavenger (one of the new Tech Team and phpBB guru) and I are going to preform some rather extensive water changes as well as a tank upgrade and a little Takashi Amano re-aquascaping, meaning the forum will be down for a while. From what Scavenger and I have been discussing the initial upgrade should take about 15 minutes but, getting all the pieces to work together could take anywhere from 1-3 hours, followed by other upgrades. Scavenger and I have worked together on other projects and one thing that needs to be noted is the use of the words "could take anywhere from 1-3 hours" in that last sentence, after many years we have found that reality usually trumps theoretics... so, it could take longer. Once the site comes back up there is the slim possibility that the Pufferpedia, Library, and Gallery may not be available and that the site may look a little different for a short time. Those are independent pieces of software and need to be linked to and incorporated in to the site.

Please cross your fingers, toes, or any other parts you feel like crossing, pull out the rabbit's foot, hang a horse shoe, or find a four leaf clover for luck and to help keep the ammonia at 0 and nitrates < 10 on the first go-round!

I promise to behave during the outage. Dark chocolate and naps are both stress-reducers I will use both in turn as needed.

After all, you cannot reset a tank without clouding the water at least a bit.

We will try to see it all as an early Christmas present from the Tech Team and control our impatience. Some of us are not toddlers any more, no matter how self-indulgent we may be, so it should be possible...I think....maybe.

I saw the date! I just didn't, well I didn't see any improvements so I figured it was either delayed or IDK, I was IN it.

EDIT: And by improvements I mean chat :p

Swimz, last thing that is going to go up is the chat because that has to be manually added. I know people miss it but for right now there are higher priority things for us to get going first like the Pufferpedia and Library. I can say that we will try to get the chat back up and running though, it's just a matter of when we get to it..... and as soon as we get everything else going smoothly I'll work on it.

I like you coping mechanisms, I'm a dark chocolate fanatic! I thought I'd find you a replacement item for the downtime, just to keep the hands and mind occupied! :goodevil:
