Heads up - possible forum downtime today!

Post by Myaj »

Hi all, I'm back from a wonderful horse riding vacation that unfortunately had no internet or phone other than what little signal I could get sitting on a freezing cold, little southern country store porch.. but I see the site managed to survive more crashes, thank you so much to Dadof4 and the rest of the team! Pufferpunk is also back in town and we're going to move forward with our upgrade.

Tonight I am going to finish setting up our future new website, and if all goes smoothly, will give a two hour warning, shut down TPF and attempt to convert over to the new setup... Now, the conversion may not work perfectly, so you'll have to bear with me if the site is down for a few hours.. but if its looking like its not going to work I will restore us to a backup from after I shut the site down, so that we are not without our puffer fix for more than a short while  .

Just giving you a heads up now.. so go ahead and get excited! You may be looking at a new and improved TPF by tomorrow morning! :D (please cross all your fingers, send good thoughts and take any other actions you wish to mentally aid us through the process smoothly and without problems!)

Remember, we do have the Facebook page that you can communicate through.. .I'll try to update that as the night goes on if, no WHEN, I do get to the point of shutting down the forum and attempting the conversion. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=50180084484

Glad you had a nice time .. :) We all need vacations.

Just a quick Q:
can't you do a back up to the new site and then a 301 redirect?

I'll offer a toast of single-malt toward you and try to funnel good thoughts your way tonight..

But I'm scared! I need my cerebral more than alcoholic fixes.

I hope it all goes smoothly!

LOL.. well, lets just say the customer service on the other end is turning out to be a joke.

It took them till 10:30 this morning to get our service actually working, then they accidentally deleted it just a few minutes ago while I was working on it. Why does no one on the face of the planet have enough common sense and brain capacity to actually do a job CORRECTLY anymore?

Man am I disgusted, I took the entire night off work, gave up 10 hours of overtime, just to sit there and watch an open ticket and discuss back and forth with them about why it wasn't running yet.. ugh.. at least I gave up waiting for them and got some sleep.. had I stayed up all night I would be VERY angry now!

I'm pretty sure I can get our $10 back. Want to start over with another host? I'm not sure I trust my baby with these guys.

I'm not sure yet what to do.. need to look at options. This should have been perfect, if their employees weren't all idiots!

C'mon Myaj! You live in the real world and know what it is like. I can't tell you how glad I am to be retired. The latter part of my career was as a nicely paid consultant and I saw more and more incompetence and incomprehensible attitudes the longer I worked - why do these folk get paid? My contracts would have been canceled with prejudice, and deservedly so, if I had worked like the majority of the permanent staffers I had contact with operated - it was frustrating and scary. My earlier career had been as a research lab rat, and folks told me that I lived in an ivory tower. After I went out into the real world at 50, I found out that they were right. How did our society achieve all that it has done with workers like those I saw the last decade-plus of my working life? Responsibility is a dirty word. Thought is forbidden. They are physically present (unless they have fallen asleep), why should you expect them to do anything requiring thought and care?

Enough spouting off from the old fogy. Off soap box, return to regular programming. ;)

Well said RTR.. its no wonder we are in a recession when appearances are more important than actions.. this is real life and not high school anymore, but no one seems to understand that!

Well guys, I'm back into my full overtime work schedule and won't have any time to do anything other than eat or sleep until Sunday (12 hours a night at normal job, plus farm), so no worries about the board going down till then. At that time I'll probalby just try to do our fall back plan of updating the current software as best as we can.. will lose a lot of features but at least it should work right! ;)
