New Gender display option

Post by Myaj »

Alrighty folks...

After years of confusion, embarrassment and some silly signature lines as a result, it finally occurred to me that I could easily add a custom profile field where we can specify our genders if we want.

So, if you guys would like, you can go to your User Control Panel (towards the top left side of your screen), and under the Profile tab, you can now select a gender to display over in your little Avatar window (look at mine for an example).

This will also show up as an option for new users to fill out upon registration, so hopefully there will be less gender related confusion in the future.. ;)

I guess I just never really thought about it before, it could have been done a long time ago. For whatever reason, I was thinking it was built into the software already, hehe.

I could've been either. A girl with a guy's name, a guy with a guy's name... It's true

I'll add mine, but I think I'll leave my dudette sig line as it is anyway...
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

Could the field be made as an optional fill-in, rather than a pull down with two choices? I ask becuase male and female are the sexes, but gender is a bit more complicated. Also, that would allow people like, say, lligreenpuffer, to put "dudette" instead of "female" which would make the field more fun.

I like it! There's alot of people out there that use their puffer's name as their username, i.e. Bazil and mrgreen, both are girls.

I wondered the same, thing, but on a forum like this, do we need "Male, Female, Eunuch, Trans Female, etc."?

I don't think we need a huge stack of options, just one text field anyone can put whatever they want in. Easy to code, 100% inclusive, and of course, FUN.
