Recommend me a filter for a 55 US gallon tank please

Post by Stratters »

I'd like to replace the filter on the new puffer tank, the one that came with it is ok, but going through the instructions, I've found a load of emails printed off, bouncing back and forth from the seller to the manufacturer. Seems they had problems with it, and not wanting to risk a filter meltdown, I think I'm going to save up and replace it.

Tank is 210 litres/55.5 US gal. (Edited because I somehow lost myself 10 gal)

Ideally, I'd like to over filtrate as much as the pennies will allow.

That filter is great but I also like to add a HOB Aquaclear 110, that is easier to access & can be cleaned more often.

If you buy my filter there's no need for another filter as it's a very strong filter. You don't have to clean it every week either. Ill post it for no extra charge.

I can only find an HOB Aquaclear 110 on Amazon.com, is there an equivalent I might be able to get over here? I have no idea what I'm looking for.

Also, could some kind soul please make head or tail of my Ph readings. LHS one is normal Ph, RHS is high Ph test. The normal looked rather blue, so I did the other, and confused myself even more.

And Arny, I'd like to cover your P&P, it's going to be expensive to ship.

Ammonia was mid way between 0ppm and 0.25ppm, ever so slightly tinged so not totally 0ppm.

This is on the new Spud tank, it's been up and running since Sunday, and the ammonia has just cleared.

Add an eheim Ecco canister, blinking amazing lill external filters, cheap on ebay. Multiple heaters is sensible as is multiple filters, what would you do if either packed up? Always run spares on your tank, I know it's a faff but beats disaster just incase disaster strikes. Sorry to prompt you to spend more lol

Ok, I now have a spare heater, just in case. What extra external filter would you recommend? I can keep the filter i've got on it atm going, and simply add the new filter in?

Also, what on earth does that Ph reading mean, please? It's got me flummoxed, it doesn't look like any of the colours on the chart.
