What are power heads im assuming they are pumps what are some brands that affordable yet reliable

Yes they are just flow pumps essentially. Some can be used with control panels to adjust power/ times they are on and off to create waves/ tidal effect. Sunsun makes some that seem ok, the hydor ones are more money but seem better ime
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

+1 to bertie's comments above. Most water pumps can be divided into "flow" pumps and "lift" or "head" pumps. IME, when you want computer or timer-controlled pumps, you are better off with higher quality pumps.

+1 and to Bertie... I use 2 hydor pumps with the smartwave controller... its pricey retail. I got it on craiglist, for the whole giddy I only paid 75$.. I think its over 200$ new. Good luck, circulation is very important and helpful in keeping dead spots from accumulating things like feces and dead matter in corners that are easy to miss with your eyes when cleaning.

It's just over £100 here for twin hydor and smart wave so not too bad really.
