As I said before, the 'Deltec MCE300 Protein Skimmer' is one of the best hang on the back skimmers you can get

I have a bak-pak skimmer that I really like. The Deltec skimmers are pretty good, too - almost ended up with one of those, actually. Avoid the Red Sea Prizm; while they make excellent shotgun targets, they otherwise suck at what they do, and also like to leave 5 gallons of water on the floor for you when you wake up. Stay away.

would the skimmer be able to hang off the side, because my tank is backed against a wall? also how much would a good second hand one be?

I have my skimmer hanging off the side. Fits perfectly under the light's legs. Can't you move the tank away from the wall?

I can but because my floor isn't that even I would be afraid of slopping the water out.

LOL, of course you'd have to drain the tank pretty low.

My Deltec MCE300 Protein Skimmer sticks out 11cm at the back of tank. Do you have 12cm gap behind your tank?

How big of a tank are we talking about, here? I was able to drag my 40 gallon away from the wall a few inches after temporarily removing about half the water in it.

I love my Bakpak on my 40 gallon. It pulls tons more crap out of the water than the old Prizm I had did. Camille's water has never been cleaner.
