Rinse it first with vinegar and water to remove any oils, it is supposed to start skimming faster that way.

Play around with the height of the cups. About 1/4" above the top of the water.

Okie dokie. Do you leave the Bio bale in? I wasn't sure if it keeps the good bacteria for the SW tank. I would assume so, but I wanted to make sure =)

Bio bales collect crud, pull it out and put your heater in instead. Your substrate and LR will hold the bacteria. also, I got the pre skimmer/bubble trap combo it works great i highly recommend it.

Are these super necessary immediately? Not saying that I won't get them if they are, but I just spent $200 on the skimmer lol. I blew my "hobby budget" out of the water for almost three months, and because it's a dualy, I will need 2 of the combos, and it's about $66 from marine and reef.

the surface skimmer completely deletes the skin that can form on the surface, if that's not a problem then i wouldn't worry about the pre skimmer. the bubble trap doesn't really work any better than the open pipe, honestly, but it gives the tank a cleaner look. so, no, it's not really necessary but it could be helpful.

Ok, sorry, learning here. I can totally understand the surface skimmer, and eventually will probably get two, because the surface skin bugs me-- totally thought the skimmer would get rid of it, but....what's the bubble trap for? For bubbles, yes, but is it so there are no bubbles in the tank? Are the bubbles bad? :sorry: I don't know ><

Bubbles aren't necessarily bad, they just look bad, but the trap doesn't really work I still have the same amount of bubbles in the tank. There are very few bubbles and they don't bother me, I really just got the combo to hide the return pipe.

Ah gotcha. LoL bubbles do not bother me. I actually think Yoshi will like them. She spends alot of time in front of the koralias as it is LoL, she'll prolly chase the bubbles until she gets used to them haha

I still need to get a BakPak to replace my Prizm with. For a 40 gallon should I get the dual skimmer that goldielocke ordered, or would a single suffice?

Awesome!! Glad to get my heater out of my tank and out of my puffer's skin way, LoL. Luau hugs the heater sometimes....it scares me, because I know how hot it can get. Good thing the Bak Pak is so big, the heater is no pixie lmao
