Fish at LFS... Tank Not Cycled.
My LFS has figure 8's they ordered for me and they won't hold them for me. I can't take them because my ammonia is at a dangerous level and I show no NirtrItes or NitrAtes.
Please Help

Won't they understand and keep him for a few weeks?Ianb262 wrote:My LFS has figure 8's they ordered for me and they won't hold them for me. I can't take them because my ammonia is at a dangerous level and I show no NirtrItes or NitrAtes.

Do you know anybody else with a mature freshwater tank? If so, you can ask them for half of their media and keep your tank freshwater for a couple of weeks before raising your salinity?

No,
I wish I did. I guess I'll just pay the fee and have them send them back. Thanks.

Do a 90% WC & add Tetra Safestart & then fish. Keep the tank at FW for 2 weeks.

^ This will work.
Exactly how dangerously high are your levels? Low enough that a 90% change will take it to non-detect?

Thanks PufferPunk! I will try this. Should I raise the salinity .002 every week after keeping it freshwater?

Keep it FW until the parameters are stable for 2 weeks.

Yeah, after a 90% water change you'd be left with a manageable amount for the Safestart. Good luck with your F8! Keep us posted!

Did the water change and added SafeStart,
(After 12 Hours)
Ammonia - 0.25ppm
Nitrites - 0ppm
Nitrates - 5ppm
Wow! Thanks so much I will post some pictures of my figure 8s when I get them

Keep a close eye on the parameters for the next week or so. Add extra Prime daily, to reduce harm from any ammonia that's still there. Hold off on a water change for 48 hours. Did you add the Safestart directly to your filter?

Are they fish doing well? Testing the parameters daily?
